Why This Maple Bacon Cheddar Biscuits Recipe is a Flavor Explosion!

  • A delightful combination of sweet maple syrup, savory bacon, and sharp cheddar cheese, offering a perfect balance of flavors.
  • Made with simple, everyday ingredients, including all-purpose flour, buttermilk, and unsalted butter.
  • Easy to prepare and perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a delicious snack any time of day.
  • Freezer-friendly—prepare a batch ahead of time and bake as needed for a convenient and tasty treat.
  • Finished with a mouthwatering maple-butter glaze, adding an extra layer of sweetness and richness to each biscuit.

Ingredients:

  • 8 slices bacon, diced
  • 500 grams (4 cups) all-purpose flour
  • 120 grams (1 cup) shredded extra-sharp cheddar cheese
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 170 grams (3/4 cup) unsalted butter, frozen
  • 360 milliliters (1 ½ cups) buttermilk
  • 90 milliliters (6 tablespoons) maple syrup, divided
  • 30 grams (2 tablespoons) melted unsalted butter

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the diced bacon until brown and crispy, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat and transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the cooked bacon, all-purpose flour, shredded cheddar cheese, baking powder, kosher salt, and baking soda.
  4. Using the large holes of a box grater, grate the frozen butter into the flour mixture. Stir until well combined.
  5. In a medium bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and 4 tablespoons of maple syrup. Add the mixture to the flour mixture and stir using a rubber spatula until a soft dough forms.
  6. On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough 3-4 times until it comes together. Roll the dough into a 1 1/4-inch thick rectangle and cut out 12 rounds using a 2 to 2 1/2-inch biscuit or cookie cutter.
  7. Place the biscuits onto the prepared baking sheet and place them in the freezer for 15 minutes.
  8. Remove the biscuits from the freezer and bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining 2 tablespoons of maple syrup and melted butter. Brush the warm biscuits with the maple-butter mixture before serving.

Notes:

  • For extra flavor, consider using smoked bacon or adding a pinch of cayenne pepper to the biscuit dough.
  • These biscuits are best served warm but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Simply reheat before serving, if desired.
