Inspired by the beloved dish from Applebee’s, we embarked on a quest to recreate these mouthwatering tacos in our own kitchen. The aroma of sizzling chicken mingling with the fragrant spices of hoisin sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger was enough to make our mouths water with anticipation. As we assembled the tacos, delicately filling each crispy wonton shell with tender chicken and vibrant slaw, we knew we were onto something truly special. Ingredients:

  • 2 chicken breasts, finely diced
  • 30 milliliters (2 tablespoons) hoisin sauce
  • 15 milliliters (1 tablespoon) sesame oil
  • 15 milliliters (1 tablespoon) soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
  • 1 bag coleslaw
  • 4 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 15 milliliters (1 tablespoon) sesame oil
  • 15 milliliters (1 tablespoon) rice vinegar
  • 15 milliliters (1 tablespoon) soy sauce
  • 15 milliliters (1 tablespoon) honey
  • 16 wonton wrappers
  • Sweet chili sauce, to serve
  • Chopped cilantro, to serve
  • Sesame seeds, to serve

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Spray or brush wonton wrappers with cooking spray or oil, then drape them over the side of a 9×13 baking dish. Bake for 7-8 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning. Remove from the oven and gently pull apart while still pliable. Bake for another 7-8 minutes until crispy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix diced chicken with hoisin sauce, sesame oil, soy sauce, minced garlic, and minced ginger. Heat a large skillet over high heat and sauté the chicken for 7-8 minutes, tossing frequently until cooked through.
  3. Meanwhile, mix coleslaw ingredients together in a large bowl.
  4. Fill baked wonton shells with cooked chicken, top with coleslaw, drizzle with sweet chili sauce, and sprinkle with chopped cilantro and sesame seeds. Serve and enjoy!
