Ingredients:

  • 16 ounce Italian bread loaf
  • Butter and garlic powder for bread
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground sausage
  • 16 ounce tomato sauce
  • 6 ounce tomato paste
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 7 ounce uncooked spaghetti
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese, divided in half
  • ⅔ cup Mozzarella cheese, divided in half
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt, plus a pinch
  • ½ teaspoon minced garlic
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large saucepan, boil the spaghetti until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. While the pasta is cooking, brown the ground beef and sausage in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion while browning the meat. Once browned, drain off any excess fat and return to the skillet.
  4. Add the tomato sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, minced garlic, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Mix well and simmer for 5-8 minutes.
  5. Add the cooked spaghetti to the meat sauce mixture. Mix well again and remove from heat.
  6. While the meat sauce is simmering, cut the Italian bread loaf in half lengthwise using a bread knife. Carve out the middle of each half to create a large hollow, removing any remaining bread.
  7. Brush the insides of the hollows and sides of the bread halves with butter. Sprinkle with garlic powder and toast in the preheated oven.
  8. Once the bread is toasted, spoon the prepared spaghetti and meat sauce mixture into the hollow of each bread half, filling them completely.
  9. Top each bread half with half of the divided Parmesan and Mozzarella cheeses.
  10. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and golden.
  11. Remove from the oven and gently cut with a bread knife to serve.
