Ingredients:

  • 900g (2 pounds) white fish fillets
  • 15ml (1 tablespoon) olive oil
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 225g (8 ounces) crab meat (fresh or imitation)
  • 45g (3 tablespoons) cream cheese (optional)
  • 5g (1 teaspoon) Old Bay Seasoning
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons garlic chives, finely chopped (optional)

Lemon Butter Sauce:

  • 30g (2 tablespoons) butter
  • Juice of one lemon
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions :

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F).
  2. In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until translucent and slightly caramelized. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant.
  3. Add crab meat (fresh or imitation) to the pan, along with cream cheese (if using), Old Bay Seasoning, salt, pepper, and garlic chives. Stir until well combined. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
  4. Lay out the white fish fillets, removing any bones, skin, and excess moisture. Place them on a cutting board with the back side up.
  5. Spoon a generous layer of the cooled crab mixture onto each fish fillet, spreading it evenly.
  6. Carefully roll up each fish fillet and place them seam side down on a greased baking pan.
  7. In a small saucepan, melt butter. Mix in lemon juice, salt, and pepper to create the lemon butter sauce.
  8. Drizzle the lemon butter sauce over the crab stuffed whitefish.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork. Cooking time may vary depending on the size of the fish fillets.
  10. During the cooking process, drizzle the pan drippings of the lemon butter sauce over the crab stuffed whitefish every 10 minutes.
  11. Serve the crab stuffed whitefish hot out of the oven, garnished with extra lemon wedges. Pair with a tossed salad and your favorite vegetables for a complete meal.

Notes:

  • For lactose-intolerant individuals, you can omit the cream cheese from the crab stuffing without compromising the flavor of the dish.
  • Fresh crab meat is recommended for gluten-free and diabetic-friendly diets, but imitation crab meat can also be used as a substitute.
  • Be sure to check the fish fillets for bones and remove them before rolling them with the crab stuffing.
  • Leftover crab stuffed whitefish can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently in the oven or microwave before serving. Enjoy!
